Happy New Year

Yep, it has been kind of quiet lately around me here. Very busy though, just not primarily with photographic activities. Assuming you are not really interested in my newly developed hobby cooking and baking, I am afraid at this time there is not an awful lot to show you. I am sure however this will change for the good during the coming year, so please stay tuned!..

I do have a little something to show you however. It’s a picture from a trip I made earlier this year (in April) to Cyprus. I have not come to the editing stage yet, but I’ve picked one out to show you. With this very inconspicuous but highly photogenic flower Star Clover (Trifolium stellatum) I am wishing you all a Very Happy New Year!

Portfolio Naturfoto

I have some good news to share with you. This year the German nature photography magazine NaturFoto has decided to feature me for the second time with a portfolio! To refresh your (and my) memory: the first time goes back to March 2012 and shows a combination of insects, flowers and toadstools. This time my portfolio shows a more focused subject, namely the Orchids in Crete. I visited this Greek island in April of 2015. So thrilled now to see a collection of my pictures back in NaturFoto! Check out my publication page towards the end of May to see the entire article.

Portfolio Natuurfotografie

I feel honored! The Dutch nature photography website www.natuurfotografie.nl has featured a portfolio of me and my macro photography. I am answering some questions (all in Dutch language of course) and showing some of my ‘best’ pictures (which is actually a kind of ‘mission impossible). Still… I decided to make a combination of some older familiar photos with some new, till now not shown, ones. I hope you like my selection! Click here to see the entire portfolio.

Highlight Glanzlichter

I know, it has been a while since I left you a message. No worries though, I am still alive! But genuinely I have to admit that this winter has taken a very very long time. Early spring with its related photo subjects such as the Orange Tip did not really attract me. Most probably because I spent so much time and effort in this tiny and beautiful butterfly last year. With a lack of new ideas and still very cold temperatures outside I decided to stay home instead and prolong my cocooning time in my comfortable warm nest called home..

And then there was this great news from the German Glanzlichter Photo Contest: I won an award this year! Yeah, so happy! So I am delighted to inform you that my below picture of a laurel forest, taken back in the summer of 2013 on the high plains ‘Fanal’ on the Portuguese island Madeira, has won a highlight in the category Magnificent Wilderness. Although it is not a macro shot, this picture has a special place in my heart. Words can not describe this magical place. You definitely have to visit this place at least once in your life. That is… if you like silence in nature, if you like serenity and very old moist trees and mosses. Edwin  has described  Fanal in one of his books, check it out! (‘Handboek natuurfotografie op reis‘, in Dutch language, to be bought here or with Edwin himself)

Christmas

It’s that time of the year again, Christmas… After the darkest and shortest day of the year Christmas is here to lighten up our minds. Forward we go, hopefully for all of us in a positive way. My Christmas card is showing a hummingbird near a Royal poinciana tree in Costa Rica, made in 2014. Thinking back to Costa Rica makes me happy. Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a happy NewYear!
